The podcast has a new name. So does the method underneath it. Both of them are now called Patterns to Purpose, and I want to tell you why, because the reason is the teaching.

For a long time this work was called The Return. I loved that name. It held something true about coming back to yourself after the years of performing, managing, minimizing, holding it all together while quietly wondering where you went. That part has not changed and will not. But a return, on its own, is only half a sentence. It tells you where you are headed and says nothing about what you do once you arrive.

Here is what I kept noticing. A woman would find her pattern. She would go underneath it and find the reason it was built. She would name the thing she had been protecting since she was nine years old, and she would sit with the enormous quiet that follows that kind of recognition. And then she would look up at me and ask the only question left.

So what was all of it for?

Not rhetorically. She genuinely wanted to know. She had spent decades on a set of behaviors that cost her sleep and relationships and whole seasons of her one life, and she wanted to know whether any of it had been in service of something.

It had. It always has been. The capability you built to survive a childhood that required it is the same capability that makes you the person everyone leans on at work. The vigilance that came from a house where you had to read the room is the same vigilance that makes you extraordinary at knowing what someone needs before they say it. The patterns were never the enemy. They were a set of instructions written by someone who did not yet have better options, and they were pointing, the entire time, at what you were built to do.

That is the arc. Patterns to purpose. Not away from patterns, not in spite of them, but through them and out the other side into something that was there all along waiting to be claimed.

So the name changed to say the whole sentence.

Everything else stays. Same voice, same Wednesday morning, same monthly letter on the first of the month, same woman talking to you honestly about what it costs to be the one who holds everything together. If you have been listening since the beginning, you will not lose your place. The show simply grew into the name it should have had.

You are not broken. You are patterned. And the patterns have somewhere to take you.
